Jackson County Search and Rescue of Medford, Oregon
Jackson County Search & Rescue is a group of volunteers who deploy for Search and Rescue missions with search teams specializing in the areas of Ground, Water, Snow and Air as well as evidence searches. SAR Team volunteers are on call 24 hours a day.
Over a three year span their SAR volunteers participated in over 300 missions while working more than 56,000 hours which theoretically saved the Jackson County community more than $1,169,000 (Based on, at the time, the current National dollar value of volunteer time of $20.85). The missions were searches for missing, stranded and injured people.
Jackson County Sheriff’s SAR has more than 100 volunteer members who operate in two geographic units; the Rogue Valley Search and Rescue (including ESAT – dive team) and the Prospect Search & Rescue. Protecting both urban and wilderness areas, each unit is responsible for its own daily operations, debts and operating procedures. In their rescue response roles, both are responsible for first response within their own geographic area; however, neither is limited to their own area.
The Jackson County SAR teams train in all aspects of search and rescue including land navigation, tracking, search techniques and rescue and recovery as well as first aid. Many members of the team are emergency medical technicians and all team members are trained with certification training at the minimum level of first responder.
