Rope Rescue Operator (RRO) Training Class
The Rope Rescue Operator class, which has been regularly scheduled at the Lebanon Oregon training facility, is available as a Flex Option Course in our Rope Rescue Operator or Rope Rescue Operator & Technician COMBO Course, allowing students to register for just the RRO course, the RRT course, or the RRO + RRT COMBO course.
This 3 day course provides students with the fundamentals of rope rescue in the low-angle environment. Students learn and practice rescue skills including knots, anchor systems, belay operations, ascending and descending lines, basic mechanical advantage systems, patient packaging and litter attending. Students learn how to safely navigate low-angle or over-the-bank rescue situations and assist rescuers in high-angle environments.
REMS Standard Of Rescue | This class meets or exceeds all the Rope Operations / Technician standards for most Rapid Extraction Module (REM) Systems Requirements. These classes allow REMS teams to practice with equipment required in the minimum gear list provided by region 6 and FIRESCOPE standards. Since 2015 we have trained over 40 REMS teams. We have also helped review reccomended standards and assisted teams in building gear profiles that meet their region and training scopes. As always, this class is only the first step in becoming a competent responder; practice, experience, and judgement are all needed after the completion of the course.
Rope Rescue Technician (RRT) Training Class
The Rope Rescue Technician class, which has been regularly scheduled at the Lebanon Oregon training facility, is for those students who have a current Rope Ops certification. (Please be sure to get approval from Crux Rescue before signing up for this class.)
This class is available as a Flex Option Course in the Rope Rescue Operator or Rope Rescue Operator & Technician COMBO Course where you can register for just the RRO course, the RRT course, or the RRO + RRT COMBO course.
This course is designed to take students from basic over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical scenarios. Students learn and practice such skills as preplanning, size-up and scene management, ascending and descending, belaying, mechanical advantage systems, lowering and raising systems, patient packaging and litter attending, tethers, and highlines.
Completion of the RRT class helps a team operate at NFPA 1006 and NFPA 2500 (Formerly 1670) – Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications – Rope Rescue at Levels I and II.
In addition, Technician level training is mandatory for inclusion on many Federal Emergency Management Agency Teams at different Team levels.

ProQual Rope Rescue – Standards Of Professional Qualification, Skill Level, Competency & Ability – Evaluation & Assessment
Crux Rescue provides evaluation and assement with the ProQual Rope Rescue — Standards Of Professional Qualification. This ProQual Rope Rescue class has been regularly scheduled at the Lebanon Oregon training facility. When possible, we also schedule a ProQual Eval concurrently as an option with other rope rescue classes. When offered concurrently with other classes, the two together can provide enrollment savings for students versus the cost when taking them at separate times, individually. You can see which options are available on the “Upcoming Dates” tab on this page and on our open enrollment calendar of classes. You may inquire with Matt Adams, as well, by phone at 518.400.2789 or via email at Answers@CruxRescue.com.
Is Completing A Class Enough?
Here at Crux Rescue, we know that taking a class is only the first step towards mastery of a skill. Continued practice and skill maintenance are required to become professional and competent rescuers, but how do you know when you’ve reached the competancy level of a professional? How can rescue competancy be measured? The assessment of the level of competance and mastery derived from continued practice, and from continued skill maintenance, can be evaluated with ProQuals.
Why ProQuals?
Rescuers often become certified immediately after learning new material, but certification does not reveal mastery. Rescue 3 ProQuals test the professional abilities of individuals, which allows for a higher standard of operation and more reliability within your team and/or organization. Those that utilize this test receive a comprehensive skill summary identifying areas of competency as well as areas that need growth and improvement.
Professional Qualification Assessments (ProQuals):
ProQuals evaluate the skill level of individuals as master, proficient, or progressing in their discipline. These third-party written and interactive tests take place without instructor tutorials and are graded according to the ProQual standards below.
ProQual Standards:
Applicants must wait at least 3 weeks after original certification to participate in a ProQual and are expected to operate according to the SOP’s/SOG’s of their organization and the standards they follow (RQ3, NFPA, Rope Access, ISA, MRA, SAR…). If no organizational standards are provided to the ProQual instructor, Rescue 3 standards will be used. Mastery level (master, proficient, or progressing) is determined by adherence to operational standards, professionalism, overall safety, and situational awareness. It is recommended that individuals only take ProQuals after securing practice, experience, and confidence in their discipline.
Individual or Group Scheduling
It is easy for individuals to sign up for one of our open enrollment ProQuals or to schedule testing for a group, agency or organization. It is a great way to demonstrate the skills you have in a discipline.
